Camping in Wales
Aug 1st, 2007 by John
Aye! That’s what Soph and I have been up to for the last week at least. So I feel a report is in order. Well as you may expect Wales was full of sheep and rain, although most of the rain was in the night so we didn’t do too badly. Setting up camp is always a fraught time for our family. As you can see here Dad has given up and is stalking off…

Eventually though we got everything set up. Soph and I had a 3 man tent to ourselves. I was quite disappointed when I realised the 3 men didn’t actually come with the tent though.
So there we are sat squinting in the Welsh sunlight. The tent was actually very comfy, and the soft muddy ground made all the comfier by airbeds. But a trip to the pub would show us that all was not well in the country… Some sort of zombie army seemed to be assembling itself, focussing its propaganda efforts at the local public houses!

Once the undead threat had been neutralised we were free to continue with out happy exploration of the Welsh countryside. Much to my mother’s dismay there was no opportunity to get to a beach to wallow on. But we did manage to see Harry Potter the Fifth in a local cinema. I say local, it seemed to be the only one for 30miles in any direction, and had a grand total of one screen! Quite nice though, and a good film to be sure!
We spent a little time one sunset on the beach and everyone was very accommodating whilst I fiddled with my camera.

But our general trips during the day included going to caves, a National Trust house (I could barely contain my excitement when I found out we were going there… *cough*), a butterfly farm, a couple of little steam trains and many many waterfalls. No idea where all the water comes from out of those Welsh hills, but there was certainly no shortage of it. One walk involved some very sheer drops with rudimentary steps. Poor Mum in her sandles was a bit pwnt by all the mud. And then Dad managed to submerge his entire foot in a muddy puddle too. All very amusing I must say.
That photo to the left was taken during a particularly pictureaskew walk at somewhere called Hafod. Very nice indeed, many more waterfalls and rivers and forests and whatnot.
But the countryside was amazing and it was great to tear my eyes away from my PC for a week. A thoroughly good time camping had! I hope Soph enjoyed it too
In other news we need to sort something out in terms of meeting up. Preferably before Adam and Mima sodoff camping themselves in a week or so. So some speedy organisation is required! Something we’re not renown for…
p.s. I’m particularly chuffed that I actually managed to get my first decent(ish) photo of a Red Kite! Look at it go. Whee.

Brraaiiins.
Your photo of the sunset is beautiful, mister. I like the funny one you took with our legs in it as well, crazy stuffs! It was an excellent holiday indeed – and I think you have covered all of the major events in a much more witty way than I could.
Brains
I lolled
Sounds like a great time had by all! I hope Adam and I have as much success with our camping trip ^^
Mmm brains. I shall no doubt post a blog after our camping trip. Most likely with less photography
