The Project :: One
Aug 20th, 2007 by John
It’s time to reveal, once and for all, The Project. How dramatic. If only it has a real name. I shall get to the point. My idea a while back was this: To create a piece of science fiction space scenery for each person here on the Whasblog, a present for each of you! I’m also aiming to make the images represent the person I am making them for, or say something about them, reflect their interests etc. Easier said than done…
All the planets / nebula / intergalactic paraphernalia I create are based in the same (yet to be named) galaxy. Once I’ve made your image it will have a generic name (e.g. Sol III for a planet or an identifier like M16 for nebulae etc.), it’s up to you to give it a real name! And it’s also up to you to come up with a piece of background writing about the image. Whether it’s just a description or a short piece of science fiction based on the scene, that is up to you. Once you’ve done it, I’ll update the image. By the end of this we’ll have a whole galaxy mapped out, both visually and contextually. I’ll create a galactic map to conclude the project, with everything positioned and included. God may have created the Earth in six days, let’s see if we can create a galaxy in 16 months (well, however long it takes).
However my motives are not all selfless, I’d quite like to improve my digital art skills before heading off to uni / whilst I’m there. But hopefully I’ll be creating things that you’ll all enjoy! You will all received the full resolution versions of your scenes, unspoilt by copyright mumbo jumbo. I only ask that you don’t pass it around too much in case it gets nicked. But at the end of the metaphorical day, it’s your image so do as you please. Perhaps an image title for this project is in order. But for now, I shall unveil the first piece.

Edit: I’ve already made a couple of changes to this… I just can’t be bothered to go and update ALL of the derivative images at the moment. Sorry.
Status of other images:
A little table thing showing how it’s all panning out. If you’re not listed it’s because I don’t have a clue what to do yet…
Tim’s – Done
Rosie’s – Ideas coming together
Adam’s – Ideas formulating
Mima’s – Ideas formulating
Pete’s – Ideas form.. hmn.. maybe..
Well done with results everyone.

It’s like the fantastic 4 film with that thing that eats planets. veyr cool idea btw.
Do I get a planet too, or is the one you already made me counting as mine? And are you making one for yourself?
Tim’s is awesumnal! Good job mister ^____^
Soph: Of course you get a planet (or something similar)
And I shall be making one for myself last of all (after all, that’s when I’ll be the best at it…
). I’m glad you like it, I hope Tim will too. Thank you.
Fred: Hehe, sorry I can’t say I’m into the Fantastic4. But thank you :]
That is very cool.
Rosie: Why thank you. *ponders the design for your planet a bit more*
That is amazing! I love that pic and I’m never seeing Tim the same way again! Destryer of planets… eeek!
Most impressive
The best rendering of a cosmic planet fart I have ever seen.
Why thank you. Don’t hold matches over holes in the Earth’s crust.
Just to add my two pennies worth..contrary to popular belief there is no scriptural evidence that God created the universe in 6 literal days
.
Anyway, the picture looks really cool though I still don’t really get what’s going on…

Then let us consider them to be metaphorical days. In which case maybe we can create a galaxy in 6 days! Either way at the moment what is happening in the image is entirely up to your imagination until Tim thinks of a story to back the scene. Thanks for the comment
