Are you sitting comfortably?
Then I’ll begin.
It was my first full day at my new job today. I was surprising un-fearful…And from the word go it was mayhem. Patients coming in every 10 minutes, phone ringing in between, filing to be done, typing to be done, lots and lots of smiling and “No I’m sorry I can’t book you in next week”. It was certainly all system go. And on Monday will be busier as the other dentist will be back on holiday and the hygienist is working (usually she only does Tuesdays and Fridays).
I’m finding already that it’s very hard to judge when to book people in for. We have emergency appointments that we try to reserve for…well emergencies. I.e the very old or the very young if they’re in a lot of pain but it’s hard to tell how much pain people are in, whether that can actually wait another day or not. Usually if you offer them a ‘sit and wait’ appointment. I.e they come, they sit, and they wait for 10 minutes, half an hour, two hours, all day or however long before someone can see them. Nine time out of ten people say “No it’s alright, I’ll take the appointment you have tomorrow”.
And so it goes on. I’m really looking forward to making that space mine…so that all the appointments are booked in my handwriting and all the abbreviations are ones I can understand etc so that should be fun. The people are really laid back and think I’m doing well so far so I’m really happy.
I’ve only been there for a day but already 2 people have said to me how easy it is to become a dental nurse if I want to, which is something I’d be really interested in doing if all goes well.
The only thing I’m not keen on is the fact that I’ll probably have to pay £3.50 a day to park my car…which adds up to quite a bit.
Anyway, look after yourselves

I’m really glad that your new job is treating you well. Sounds like it must be very rewarding as well as interesting and whatnot. I’m sure you’re excellent over the phone to people and you’ll get used to the ins and outs in no time I imagine. Best of luck with it. Is there no kind of car pass you can get to lower the bill?
Open wide :bigo:
Sounds like everything is going very well at your new job. Dental nurse sounds like a good goal to head towards, too – I think you’d be good at that
Shame about the price of the car parking, I’m sure there are other places to park in Amersham that are cheaper or even free if you don’t mind a bit of a walk…I will look into it! x
