Christmas Cake and Computer Complications
Feb 22nd, 2008 by John
Hello there everyone! I have not blogged in a while so here I am again, eating the second to last piece of Christmas Cake, which is getting increasingly soggy. And interestingly enough I’m not blogging from the website! Oh no, I’m trying out "Windows Live Writer", which seems to mean that I can blog from my desktop and I’m looking at the blog as it will look when it’s done. The title is green and all. So whether or not this works will show whether or not the Whasblog works well with it or not. If so, feel free to download WLW and use it yourself
This comes after a catastrophic computer death last night. My laptop, which I’ve had for a total of 5months, decided to corrupt its hard drive file tables. It still worked ok, but then good old chkdsk tried to correct the problem. After that it didn’t even switch on. But by finding hidden Acer recovery partitions and staying up half the night I’m back online in less than a day. It’s scary how much I (we?) rely on computers everyday. If I’d have had to send this beast off to Acer for repairs it would have been harder to keep in touch with people, and what about all the music, and the work too I suppose! As it is I have all my work backed up and a quick trip home this weekend to install software again is a good excuse to get some washing done.
I’ll be blogging again soon with a bit of a major rant so prepare yourselves for that, it might be bordering on controversial. Otherwise my course and things are going ok, about the same as last semester really. We had some photography theory lectures earlier in the term which were really interesting. I couldn’t understand why so many people in the class hated them. There seems to be a real prejudice against artistic photography (as in not for commercial money making purposes, for the purpose of ‘expressing oneself’ or something) on the course, and the BA students all hate us soulless FdA students. It’s quite interesting! Unfortunately our main lecturer has decided to leave so at the moment we don’t have a course leader for after Easter, this is quite a shame as our last one was really awesome.
Anyone got any plans for the Easter holidays? And has anyone who’s at uni found a house for next year yet? I’m thirsty for news!
Peace out.
Windows Live Writer sounds quite snazzy. I think I tried out something like that aaaaaages ago and decided I’m not too bothered about whether I write it on the website or on my desktop, but it’s a snazzy little tool to have. :]
It’s a shame they stopped doing the cool theory lectures. Are there any on the BA course you could go along to for funsies? I’m glad your laptop is working again, that would’ve been a bit dire for work and talking to meeeee.
<3
Heh you’re right, it’s not really any easier than blogging from the site. I shall become disillusioned with it soon enough :V
And yup I’ll be auditing the first year BA lectures next year hopefully  Heh, well I could have always phoned you if I lost the laptop
But I am also glad it is working. Thankee for the speedarific comment.
Wow, Well recovered, John. I think I’d have been close to throwing my laptop out of the window, and I think Toby might well have done (only kidding). Lol to getting washing done, home-washed clothes are always better, although since I’ve been at uni, I’ve only taken my washing home twice. And the rest of the time? simple. I dont do any. (hah, I wish.). No, I use Wheatley’s somewhat limited washing machines.
In house hunting news, not a lot’s going on really. Half the people I was going to live, have now almost backed out. One of them, I’d onl ever met once and I don;t have his number, so i can;t find out whats going on with him. Freddie, however, is definitly going to live with me next year, we’re thinking of getting a three bed and renting out the third room to a oh-my-goodness-i’ve-left-it-too-late-please-God-help-me student. We’re (Freddie and I) going to see a house tommorrow, actually and hopefully sign for it as soon as possible. Yay, work tommorrow as well.
H’mmm, perhaps I should have done a different blog, lol. Well you did say you wanted news. I’m glad your PCs up and running again. Take care xx
Tammy: It takes obsession and desperation to spend that long trying to sort something out D: This’ll be about the 4th time I’ve taken washing back, but the machines here don’t seem to get mud out of trousers Dx
Ack sounds like you have housing troubles, it took many all-together meetings here to finally sort out who wanted to live where. But that sounds like a fair plan, hopefully the third student is a nice personage ^^ Thanks for the news, it’s good to hear from you.
Talking of how much we rely on computers, we once spent nearly an hour trying to fix ours (at work) when it mysteriously just decided not to turn on, before realising that it wasn’t plugged in! Glad it’s up and running again.
Shame that you’ll be ‘losing’ that lecturer. Hope his replacement is just as good
Looking forward to that controversial rant! :V
Robyn:
Computers unplug themselves sometimes beause they are spiteful, they watch people trying to fix them and chuckle to their twisted selves. Thanks for the comment ^^
I could really do with a piece of soggy Christmas cake atm.
Lol, there’s one bit left, maybe I’ll… email it to you?
