Since many of you are (far) away from Chesham, I’d just thought I’d tell you a bit about what’s going on here (not much, as it turns out). The May Fair was last Sunday and as far as I know went very successfully (I don’t suppose that any of you went?). It stayed dry and we managed to pick up loads of ‘interesting’ things on the tombolas. We spent most of the day blowing bubbles that we had bought on the kids school and eating candy floss…mmm sugar. Fee got into trouble when she slagged off the band that were playing, particularly the girl who was singing (it really wasn’t very tuneful), and was overheard by Miss Newson.
On another note, Mrs Geary (one of the librarians) recently came into work (she’s a patient) and told me that the school have plans for the library. Aparently, they are so desperate for classroom space that they are being forced to convert the library into three classrooms and are planning to build a much smaller one that will be attached to the H-block. So that’s quite sad news (I thought). They were obviously really against it but there’s not much they can do. I suppose they’ll have to axe the computers in the library but even then I think it’s not going to be very big, which is a shame.
It looks set to be a hot weekend ahead- get out those barbeques!!

Ooh interesting news. I can imagine Miss Newson would indeed have had something to say about that. Must have been quite funny though. Not the library! It seemed only just big enough as it was back then. Rather than building new classrooms can’t they just reject more students? That’s my slightly Machiavellian approach at least.
Hope you’ve enjoyed the sun this week, good to hear from you again.
I was thinking about rejecting more students aswell, surely they are limited by the size of the school, adn its already in a lot of debt. Good to hear you’ve been having fun back in the old place.
Had a BBQ on Wednesday, and its just rained over here! Off for some serious frisbee time now.
Gosh, I can’t imagine the library being much smaller. It seemed quite a good size when we were there but now I’m so used to the one at uni with 5 floors…!
The weather is so gorgeous at the moment. The other day I spent the whole afternoon with two friends lounging around on the grass outside our houses, playing the ukulele and making up songs! It was amazing. If only there wasn’t so much work to do, we’d do it every day  Hope you’re making the most of the sun in Chesham! xx
poor library! i’m with sophie, it’s small already. the ones here are 4 stories, 2 stories and 3 stories high respectively (oh yes we have 3 libraries! hoorah!). and on a competitive note add the total and it thrashes warwicks 5 stories with a whopping 9 stories =D (not that i’m competetive).
anyway, back to CHS, poor library. anything they do to cram classrooms in there will be shit. I agree with letting less students in. they let more and more in every year and then complain about space. it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out. Either that or someone should petition the government to build another school just outside the catchment area so that there isn’t the problem of everyone traveling stupid distances just to go to CHS, overcrowding it.
I’m glad everyone feels the same! I couldn’t believe they were going to make it smaller- I think they do need to think seriously about how many people they can take on each year. Does anyone remember that time in the H-block corrider where there were about 6 queues of people trying to get in/out and there was a massive stampede where we almost got cruushed!?
Yes the weather is great- I’m so pleased we’re having a proper summer this year!
I remeber the queues like that in many corridors, including S block and the languages department… Sigh…The library was a good place; I was in there a lot when I first joined the school. I was even in the reading club for a bit!!! I agree with…everyone, that less pupils are a good idea, however the school does need to generate profit, which is does with a higher number of pupils. (Governmnet susbsides are higher.) I remeber being told that each pupil is worth roughly £2000 to the school. Holding that against the costs and the debt, I can see why the school doesnt want to reduce its intake.
(soz about the finance and economics there.)
Hugs to all…ah the memories….
