The Future of Accommodation
Jul 22nd, 2008 by John
Hello all, hope everything is good. Work’s been going fine for me, still finding it quite fun, selling all those cameras and the like. Some of the staff are still a bit grumpy but hey, what can ye do? In other news, I went to Cambridge recently to have a look at our new house. Three of us have already moved in and are living there at the moment, myself and and one other personage are moving in in September.
My room is quite a funny place and we were in fits of laughter as we discovered all the things that were wrong with it. It seems its fitted out with old gas lighting pipes! There’s also an old fireplace, just a shame its non-functional. The furniture falls apart if you touch it (you can knock the desk top off by accident) and when I arrived all the light-bulbs were missing!
BUT. All that said (and there was more than that), I’m looking forward to moving in and making the room a less cold feeling place. ‘Tis quite exciting. I’m thinking tapestries, log fires and flaming torches on the mini-corridor which leads to my room. Rugs and pillows everywhere. Perhaps some new oak fittings. Plumb it out with a sink, possibly a shower. Oh and a service lift to the kitchen.
Here’s some photos of how it looks at the moment (stitching errors left in for amusement factor, look at the cupboard!).

Isn’t it lilac :fem: ? Tis a good size, a fair bit bigger than halls. I was also thinking of doing something about the view out my window. Luckily the double-glazing cuts out most of the traffic noise. Not so much the street lamps and traffic lights, but they’re not too bad. I was thinking of applying for planning permission to rip up the road, and perhaps install an enormous fountain?

And as for the rest of the house and garden, all reasonably lovely. Bit odd that the bathroom is accessible only through the kitchen, but life goes on. Enjoy these other photos (again stitching errors left in for comedic porpoises).

Aye, that’s out shed door being relocated. We thought it would look better on the roof, or perhaps just lying on the floor nearby, to fool thieves.
p.s. I’ve just found out my timetable for the next academic year too. Looks like I’ll have a lot of time slobbing around! I have two days of lectures, 10 ’til 5 on a Thursday and Friday :3
Keep safe peoples.
Peace :music:
How exciting! It looks like you might need to invest in a new mattress for the bed though or maybe just a thick sleeping bag..? But apart from a lick of paint I think you’ll be settled in no time! The kitchen is a good size. Will you be paying roughly the same as you were last year? Lectures only two days a week? That gives you plently of time to recover from the weekend!
All the best for September.
Hehe, I suppose it is quite exciting. Getting the matress to the house will also be fairly amusing. I wonder how I’ll get it on my bike? Kitchen is reasonable indeed, not quite as much space as last year, but I suppose that was halls rather than a house. We might even start cooking for each other (ha!). I think it will be roughly the same cost as last year, the rent is slightly cheaper but what with bills and TV licence and the silly internet TV package we have… :money:
Thankee, hope to see you sometime before everyone is called away to uni again :U
Looks really… wobbly. But I guess it’s not really. ‘Tis very cool. I can’t wait to move in to my (apparently very similar) house so I’m off next Saturday to move in! Hoorah!
So few lectures! The house looks most reasonable. Though nothing can compare with our lowmonthlyrentofawesomeness house.
Fred: This Saturday then? Exciting stuff!
Adam: So very few. You may have low monthly rent, but only because your room will have more people than just you!
